Tor Browser 10.0.17 and Tails 4.19 Released
The release of the specialized distribution Tails 4.19 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been announced. Tails is based on Debian packages and is designed to provide anonymous internet access. Anonymity in Tails is ensured by the Tor system. By default, all connections except those routed through the Tor network are blocked by a packet filter. User data is encrypted when using the persistent storage mode, allowing data to be saved between sessions. An ISO image is available for download, which can run in Live mode and is 1 GB in size.
What’s New in Tails 4.19
- TLS certificate pinning to the Tails website during automatic updates has been discontinued. This change was made because such pinning had previously disrupted automatic updates twice. Integrity checks using the OpenPGP key are considered sufficient.
- Tor Browser has been updated to version 10.0.17.
- Thunderbird has been updated to version 78.10.0.
- A clear indication is now shown when entering the administrator password in sudo (for example, “[sudo] password for user: ********”).
Tor Browser 10.0.17
At the same time, a new version of Tor Browser 10.0.17 has been released, focusing on anonymity, security, and privacy. This release is synchronized with the Firefox 78.11.0 ESR codebase, which addresses six vulnerabilities. The following components have also been updated:
- NoScript 11.2.8
- HTTPS Everywhere 2021.4.15
- Tor 0.4.5.8
The release of Tor Browser for Android has been delayed until next week.
