Tails 4.22 Distribution Released
The specialized Linux distribution Tails 4.22 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been released. Tails is based on Debian and is designed to provide anonymous internet access. Anonymity in Tails is achieved through the Tor network. By default, all connections except those routed through Tor are blocked by a packet filter. User data can be stored securely between sessions using encrypted persistent storage. The new release is available as a 1.1 GB ISO image that can run in Live mode.
What’s New in Tails 4.22
- Tor Connection Wizard Improvements: The Tor Connection wizard now allows users to connect from censored networks using bridge relays to bypass restrictions. Users can now save their selected bridge relay in persistent storage and manually adjust the system time if connecting to Tor via obfs4 bridges fails.
- Retry Button for Tor Connection: Error pages now include a button to retry connecting to the Tor network.
- Updated Software: This release includes Tor Browser 10.5.6, Thunderbird 78.13, and updated AMD GPU firmware (20210818).
- Unsafe Browser Changes: Tails no longer restarts Tor after exiting the Unsafe Browser, which is used for accessing resources on local networks.
- Update Verification: There is now a check to ensure that automatically installed updates are downloaded from a working mirror.
- Russian Documentation: A Russian-language version of the documentation is now included.
