Spy Supervan Can Hack iOS and Android Devices from 500 Meters Away

The Cypriot company WiSpear has announced the creation of a minivan equipped with next-generation information-gathering technologies, capable of hacking mobile devices running Apple and Google operating systems from up to 500 meters away. According to Forbes, the vehicle costs between $3.5 million and $5 million, and, if the manufacturer is to be believed, the minivan has already attracted interest from potential buyers.

The SpearHead 360 is outfitted with 24 antennas to connect to targeted devices. Once a device is selected, the SpearHead 360 forces it to connect to its equipment to intercept the Wi-Fi connection, using one of four available methods. Then, using a “man-in-the-middle” attack, the minivan begins to dig into the mobile device in search of data.

The SpearHead 360 has four types of malware at its disposal for different operating systems, including iOS and Android. According to the manufacturer, the minivan has access to a database of unknown vulnerabilities (zero-day exploits) in iOS and Android. Moreover, the SpearHead 360 can attack all of a victim’s devices at once. For example, if the target is sitting in a café, working on a Mac, and has an Android smartphone and a Windows tablet with them, the nearby van can hack all three gadgets simultaneously.

The SpearHead 360 was unveiled this month at the ISS World and Eurosatory conferences. So far, there have been no orders, but the manufacturer claims it expects to sell 2–4 minivans by the end of the calendar year.
