Hello everyone. I came across a news article from Meduza about the shutdown of RAMP by our dearly beloved Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD). Here’s the full text of the article:

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has officially announced the termination of RAMP—the largest Russian online drug marketplace. This was stated in a response from Deputy Minister Mikhail Vanichkin to a request from State Duma Deputy Anton Gorelkin.

According to Vanichkin, the MVD shut down RAMP back in July, when the site became inaccessible. The ministry noted that this was the result of measures aimed at “identifying and suppressing the activities of criminal groups involved in the distribution of synthetic drugs, potent substances, precursors, and cocaine via the internet using contactless methods.”

The MVD added that in the first half of 2017 alone, 3,775 crimes related to drug trafficking over the internet were identified, and 1,583 people were brought to justice. No specific details about the RAMP shutdown were provided in the deputy minister’s response.

I can’t comment on the latest statistics mentioned in the article. But the very fact that the MVD (seriously, them?) claims to have shut down RAMP makes me laugh hysterically. I could be wrong. Only a handful of people know the real story. In my view, it wasn’t the MVD that took down RAMP, but Hydra (which is also rumored to be connected to law enforcement) or even more serious organizations. If Hydra really is law enforcement-backed, then this is a very amusing piece of news about a law enforcement agency eliminating its own competitor, as reported in open media.

But that’s all speculation. For those who aren’t aware, RAMP itself took down several platforms with DDoS attacks (for example, Malina), so ending up like its former competitors is a logical conclusion.
