Russia Ready to Reroute Internet Traffic Through Asia

Russia Prepared to Redirect Internet Traffic via Asia

The Russian Ministry of Digital Development is prepared for the possible disconnection of Russian operators from European internet exchange points. However, according to Maksut Shadayev, Minister of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media, โ€œapart from a couple of incidents, there have been no problems with traffic exchange in Europe.โ€

โ€œWe have a plan B: in the event of a complete disconnection of Russian operators from international exchange points in Europe, we will reroute traffic through Asia. Rostelecom, as the main backbone operator, has such a plan,โ€ the minister said at the โ€œCNews Forum Cases: IT Leadersโ€™ Experience.โ€

In mid-March, Megafon and Rostelecom were disconnected from the British company LINXโ€™s internet exchange point. Both companies told Interfax that this disconnection would not affect Russian internet resources, and they had already planned to stop using LINX due to the small volume of traffic involved.

Meanwhile, LINX continued to review other Russian clients who might be affiliated with the aforementioned companies.
