Quantum Computers Go on Sale in Japan

Quantum Computers Now Available for Purchase in Japan

According to the Japanese portal PC Watch, sales of portable quantum computers from the Chinese company SpinQ Technology, based in Shenzhen, have begun in Japan. The company has introduced three compact quantum computers: the Gemini Mini, Gemini, and Triangulum.

Model Overview and Pricing

  • Gemini Mini: The most basic two-qubit system, priced at around $8,700. The Mini version weighs 14 kg and measures 200 × 350 × 260 mm. It is powered by a standard electrical outlet and consumes no more than 60 W. The built-in software allows it to simulate the operation of up to eight qubits.
  • Gemini: This model is significantly heavier at 44 kg, consumes up to 100 W, and measures 600 × 280 × 530 mm. Like the Mini, it is a two-qubit system but is capable of performing more complex operations. The price is $43,000.
  • Triangulum: The flagship model weighs 40 kg, measures 610 × 330 × 560 mm, and costs nearly $60,000. Unlike the previous two models, the Triangulum features three qubits and consumes 330 W.

Technology and Applications

SpinQ Technology positions all three systems as educational tools for learning how to work with quantum devices. The computers are based on the principle of nuclear magnetic resonance. Dimethylphosphite is used as the working substance, with hydrogen and phosphorus atoms serving as the qubits.
