Project “Camel” to Aid Ministry of Internal Affairs in Deepfake Detection

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) is set to receive a new program called “Mirror” (“Camel”) by November 2022, designed to detect videos with face swaps, also known as deepfakes. This information comes from a contract signed by the ministry, as reported by TASS.

According to the contract, the scientific research project titled “Study of Possible Methods for Detecting Signs of Intra-frame Video Editing Performed Using Neural Networks” will continue until November 30, 2022. The contract for the development is valued at 3.5 million rubles.

The contract with the Ministry of Internal Affairs was signed on March 4. Ministry staff believe that this development will enhance the scientific and technical support for the activities of expert and forensic units, particularly in the field of video technical examinations and research.
