Over 500,000 People Want to Connect to Elon Musk’s Starlink Satellite Internet
SpaceX has received over 500,000 requests for its Starlink satellite internet service, according to a report by CNBC citing the company. These are users who have placed a $99 deposit to reserve the opportunity to connect to Starlink in the future. Pre-orders for the service began in February of this year.
SpaceX assures customers that the deposit is refundable. As of February, the company already had more than 10,000 users in the United States and other countries.
Elon Musk responded to the news about the high number of pre-orders. The entrepreneur is confident that most people who placed pre-orders will become Starlink users. However, it is still unclear how many of the 500,000 people will actually become Starlink customers. The service is designed to provide internet access from anywhere on Earth, but there are limitations due to population density, which Musk himself has also mentioned.
Recently, SpaceX launched another batch of internet satellites, bringing the total number of Starlink satellites in orbit to over 1,500.
