64% of Russians Tried to Remove Their Personal Information from Websites or Social Media
Analysts from the antivirus company Kaspersky Lab surveyed Russians about deleting their personal data online. The results showed that most citizens are concerned about their privacy and understand the risks of sharing personal information publicly.
According to the Kaspersky Lab survey, 64% of Russians have tried to delete previously posted personal data from social networks and various online platforms. Meanwhile, 41% said they had not done so only because they did not know how.
One in five respondents (18%) reported that at some point they found information about themselves or their loved ones online that they would not want to be publicly available.
Why Russians Delete Their Data Online
The researchers also asked citizens about their reasons for removing their data from the internet. The most common reasons were:
- 49% wanted to protect themselves from cybercriminals,
- 35% wanted to avoid websites collecting their information,
- 34% tried to hide their actions from people who have access to their devices.
Experts continue to remind users: your personal data can be used against you (for example, for fraud or identity theft), so always pay attention to where you share it.
