White House Market Discontinues Bitcoin Payments, Switches to Monero Only
The prominent darknet marketplace White House Market has stopped accepting payments in Bitcoin and now only supports Monero (XMR) transactions.
The decision was prompted by an βunexpected blockage of access from the Tor network.β This issue was influenced by changes to the API of the MorphToken exchange service, which the marketplace relied on.
βA workaround was helping with the conversion from Bitcoin to XMR. These developments raised concerns for us, so we decided to support only Monero, as originally planned,β the marketplace stated in an announcement.
In August of this year, White House Market became one of the most active darknet marketplaces after Empire Market went offline.
According to Bitfury estimates, the total value of Bitcoin received by darknet entities increased from $1.3 billion to $1.6 billion in 2020.
