Jakarta Police Accidentally Get Half the City High While Burning Three Tons of Marijuana
In West Jakarta, local police unintentionally caused a citywide drug intoxication after deciding to destroy a large stash of confiscated illegal substances. According to the Jakarta Post, officers were tasked with disposing of more than three tons of marijuana seized from a local den. Their chosen method was to set the entire pile on fire right outside their police station.
Thanks to the wind, thick clouds of marijuana smoke quickly spread throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. Soon after, local residents began complaining of severe headaches and dizziness from inhaling the drifting smoke. While the police protected themselves with gas masks before starting the burn, they completely forgot to warn the local community. Residents reported that the smell of marijuana in the area was “overwhelming” and extremely “pungent.”
The event was attended by several high-ranking municipal officials and journalists. At the same time, police also destroyed 1.8 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 25,381 ecstasy tablets.
