Israel Approves Canadian Blockchain Platform for Cannabis Research

Consumers of cannabis want to be sure that the products they use are safe and effective. Currently, the industry relies heavily on reputation, with buyers typically choosing products from trusted dealers. However, this is gradually changing as blockchain technology emerges, allowing consumers to access detailed information about the conditions in which their cannabis was grown. The technology is considered so reliable that even Israel is beginning to implement it in its research processes.

Canadian IT company Global Cannabis Applications Corp. (GCAC), which specializes in software development for the medical cannabis industry, has announced that its blockchain platform, Efixii, has been officially approved by the Israeli government for use in medical cannabis cultivation research.

It was clarified that the Israeli cannabis company Bless, which partnered with GCAC last year, received regulatory approval to study the “production capacity of plants without creating stress depending on timing.” This research will help the company better understand cultivation principles and shape future research initiatives, including those at the government level.

A key requirement of the approved methodology is the use of the Efixii platform to record, manage, and provide data collected during scientific studies. The cannabis company convinced authorities that the platform would not only ensure reliable results but also protect the data from unauthorized access.

“Efixii is the only service capable of recording and thoroughly analyzing the research process, all with the full transparency of blockchain,” explained Nadav Sigal, founder of Bless and its Vice President of Research and Development.

According to the GCAC website, the Efixii platform is designed for cloud-based processing of data collected throughout the entire medical cannabis supply chain—from cultivator to patient.

The platform utilizes six core technologies: Ethereum blockchain, artificial intelligence, intelligent databases, regulatory technology (regtech), a proprietary rewards system, and mobile applications. Together, these technologies allow cultivators to analyze and discover optimal growing methods, regulators to monitor the registration process, and consumers to predict the effectiveness of various products.

Essentially, Efixii issues certificates of compliance for cannabis products, clearly showing the conditions under which the cannabis was grown, its journey through the supply chain, how many people purchased it, and their feedback on its use.
