iOS 13 Bug Prevents Touch ID Use in Banking Apps
Some iPhone owners who recently updated their devices to iOS 13 have encountered issues logging into certain apps, including banking services and password managers. According to 9to5Mac, the problem is caused by a bug in iOS 13 that affects older iPhone models with Touch ID sensors. Due to this bug, the authentication window does not appear, leaving users unable to log in.
The issue affects apps that use the fingerprint sensor for user authentication and is present in iOS versions from 13.0 through 13.1.1. Notably, banking apps like Chase, Wells Fargo, Barclays, and Santander, the 1Password password manager, and apps offering additional security settings such as Apollo for Reddit are impacted.
In reality, the authentication window is still there—it’s just not visible. For some reason, the API fails to display it correctly over the app. As a workaround, 9to5Mac suggests opening the affected app and placing your finger on the Home button, even if the authentication window isn’t visible on the screen. Alternatively, gently shaking the device may make the authentication window reappear.
This problem has been reported by users of the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus (older iPhone models with Touch ID cannot be updated to iOS 13).
