iOS 11 Vulnerability Causes Endless Device Reboots
A vulnerability in iOS 11.1.2 has been causing some devices, including the iPhone X, to enter an endless reboot loop.
On Saturday, December 2, iPhone users began reporting sudden and repeated device restarts without any clear reason. In rare cases, the rebooting would end with the device shutting down completely.
According to some users, the issue appears to be triggered by local notifications from certain apps, such as Headspace and Calm, which are related to the date and time settings in the operating system. The exact cause of the reboots, which make the devices nearly unusable, remains unclear.
One Reddit user who experienced the problem said that Apple representatives advised him to set the device’s date to before the issue started. After setting the date to December 1, the reboots stopped.
The problem affects some devices running iOS 11.1.2, including the iPhone X. It is still unknown which specific apps are responsible for triggering the reboots.
Apple has already released the iOS 11.2 update, which fixes this issue.
