Have I Been Pwned Service Put Up for Sale

Troy Hunt, the current owner of the Have I Been Pwned service, which provides information about data breaches, is looking for someone interested in acquiring his creation. Hunt launched Have I Been Pwned over five years ago, and the service has become highly effective at identifying compromised credentials.

Hunt announced the sale in a post on his blog, where he also discusses the future of the service. He recalls how traffic to the site surged dramatically after the publication of 773 million leaked emails and passwords.

In addition, Hunt notified his followers on Twitter about the sale, writing:

β€œIt’s time for Have I Been Pwned to grow and move beyond what I can provide as the sole owner. For the past year, I’ve been considering possible solutions, which have led me to this decision.”

Earlier, in January, Troy Hunt reported a leak of email addresses and passwords that, as it turned out, also affected French President Emmanuel Macron. French media shared information that Macron’s personal Gmail account was among the addresses in the leaked database.
