Hackers Breach Official VKontakte Community

On March 20, 2022, hackers managed to break into the official VKontakte community on VKontakte, which had 12.4 million subscribers. After gaining access, they distributed an “anti-war manifesto” through the group.

Details of the Incident

In the manifesto, the hackers shared information about “the number of casualties and the economic situation in Russia” following the start of the military operation. The breach occurred through the account of one of the social network’s editors.

It remains unknown how the hackers were able to bypass additional security measures, such as mandatory two-factor authentication and content moderation for published posts.
