Flipper Zero Firmware 1.0 Released
After three years of development, the Flipper Zero team has announced the release of firmware version 1.0. This major update introduces a new NFC subsystem, JavaScript support, dynamic loading of third-party apps, and much more.
As Pavel Zhovner wrote on his Telegram channel: “This is the first major version after 3 years of development. We hope to lock in the main APIs for developers and avoid breaking fundamental things for a while.”
The developers report that the new firmware now supports 89 radio protocols, 20 RFID protocols, and adds 4 types of universal IR remotes. Bluetooth and NFC performance has been improved, JavaScript support and dynamic loading of third-party apps have been added, and the device’s standby battery life now reaches one month.
While some of these features were present in previous Flipper Zero firmware versions, they were not always stable and users experienced issues. The current version aims to provide more stable operation and better performance.
Key Features of Flipper Zero Firmware 1.0
- Dynamic App Loading: Users can now install community-developed apps from a catalog, saving system memory by running apps directly from FAP (Flipper Application Package) files on a microSD card.
- NFC Subsystem Upgrade: The NFC subsystem was rewritten, with a completely overhauled RFAL library, faster card reading, support for new card types (such as ICODE® SLIX and FeliCa™ Lite-S), and a new plugin system. MIFARE Classic® card dumps can now be viewed and edited directly in the Flipper mobile app.
- JavaScript Support: Flipper Zero now supports JavaScript, making app development more accessible. As Pavel Zhovner notes, “The API functions aren’t as extensive as what you can do in C/C++ yet, but it will get better over time.”
- Sub-GHz Improvements: Added support for 89 radio protocols, the ability to listen to analog radios, and a new BinRAW file format for more efficient signal storage and sharing.
- IR Enhancements: New universal IR remotes for various devices (TVs, air conditioners, audio systems, and projectors) and support for external IR hardware with more powerful LEDs.
- General System Improvements: Standby battery life now reaches up to one month. Bluetooth data transfer speed with Android devices has doubled, and firmware updates now download 40% faster via Bluetooth (the Flipper Zero update program now supports the heatshrink compression algorithm).
Firmware version 1.0 is already available on the Flipper Zero website. You can install it via Bluetooth from a mobile device or from a computer using the qFlipper app.
