Firefox 63 to Add Protection Against Cryptocurrency Mining Scripts

Firefox 63 to Introduce Protection from Browser-Based Cryptocurrency Miners

The upcoming release of Mozilla Firefox 63 will include new security features designed to protect users from browser-based cryptocurrency mining scripts. In addition to this, Mozilla plans to expand the functionality of several security tools within the browser.

Enhanced Security Features in Firefox 63

The Mozilla Firefox development team aims to strengthen the browser’s security in version 63 by adding protection against cryptocurrency mining scripts that can run on web pages. The update will also enhance the browser’s tracking protection system, allowing it to block external JavaScript scripts, images, and iframe pages from sites listed in the disconnect.me blacklist. Additionally, Firefox 63 will introduce safeguards against scripts used for user identification.

Improved Privacy Controls

Mozilla plans to make privacy settings more accessible. For example, users will be able to enable tracking protection directly from the context menu that appears when clicking the site information icon in the address bar. The tracking protection settings will also allow users to selectively block analytics counters, various widgets, mining scripts, and advertising network trackers.

Mozilla Firefox 63 is scheduled for release on June 25, 2018.
