Average Price for Corporate Network Access on the Darknet is $2,000

Corporate Network Access on the Darknet Averages $2,000

Experts from Kaspersky Lab have analyzed nearly 200 darknet listings offering access to corporate networks. Their research found that the average price for such access ranges from $2,000 to $4,000, with many listings selling on the same day they are posted.

Researchers note that for cybercriminals, it is often more profitable to pay for ready-made access than to spend time searching for vulnerabilities. These offers are especially attractive to ransomware operators. The main criterion for evaluating these “products” is the company’s revenue: almost every listing mentions the company’s income, while the region and industry are mentioned much less frequently.

RDP Access Dominates Listings

In 75% of the analyzed listings, the access being sold was to RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol), providing immediate entry into a company’s infrastructure. Prices depended on the industry and region where the organization operates, as well as its revenue and the potential profit criminals could make with a legitimate account. For example, one listing offered access for $50,000 to a company with $465 million in revenue.

Price Distribution and Influencing Factors

Some cases where the price significantly exceeded $5,000 were explained by the “quality characteristics” of the lot, such as the company’s specific business activities. For instance, a company specializing in POS terminals and internet acquiring services was valued much higher ($20,000) than similar offers. Additional “bonuses” included with the lot—such as an existing database of email addresses or other critical data—can also affect the price. Buyers can later process, use, or resell this data separately from the access itself.

Looking at the price distribution in more detail, almost half (42.74%) of all listings fall into the “up to $1,000” category.
