Anonymous Declares War on Elon Musk Over Cryptocurrency Prices

Hackers from the Anonymous group have accused billionaire Elon Musk of having excessive influence over the price of Bitcoin and of disregarding the investments of ordinary people. The group published their message to the entrepreneur online.

“Millions of retail investors were counting on profits from cryptocurrencies to improve their lives. Of course, they took the risk upon themselves when they invested—everyone knows you have to be prepared for the volatility of cryptocurrencies—but your tweets this week show a clear disregard for the average working person,” the hackers said in their video message.

On Friday, Musk posted a tweet with the hashtag #Bitcoin and a broken heart emoji. After this post, the price of the cryptocurrency dropped by more than 6%, to around $36,750, and continued to fall.

“While hardworking people’s hopes are being crushed by your public tantrums, you continue to mock them with memes from one of your mansions. You may think you are the smartest person, but now you have met your match. We are Anonymous. We are legion. We are coming,” the Anonymous statement said.

The video’s author claims that Musk does not uphold the ideals he publicly defends. He mentioned that Tesla stopped accepting Bitcoin due to the cryptocurrency’s environmental impact, but cited a Sunday Times article stating that the company continues to mine lithium, which also pollutes the environment. He also mentioned the use of child labor in production.
