Marijuana Smoking Increases Pregnancy Risks

Researchers from the University of Utah Health conducted a study on the effects of marijuana smoking during pregnancy and its consequences for the child. The study observed 9,000 pregnant women from across the United States. Unlike similar studies, this one stands out for its large scale and more objective data.

According to the results, scientists concluded that women who smoke cannabis experience fetal problems one and a half times more often than non-smokers (25.9% compared to 17.4%). The risk of premature birth is especially high. Researchers link this effect to impaired blood flow to the placenta.

Women may use cannabis to relieve stress or ease nausea, but scientists urge them to use other methods instead.
