CBD Extracts May Reduce Risk of Psychosis Symptoms

According to a new study published in the scientific journal World Psychiatry by a team of UK medical researchers, regular use of CBD extracts in doses not exceeding 600 milligrams significantly reduces the risk of developing symptoms of various types of psychosis in individuals diagnosed with such conditions. These findings are supported by data from a clinical trial involving 31 volunteers.

During the three-week experiment, participants received a daily capsule containing 600 milligrams of pure CBD extract or a placebo with no psychoactive effects. Throughout the trial, researchers monitored the volunteers’ subjective well-being and continued to observe them for a month after the experiment and cessation of extract intake.

“Overall, according to the CAARMS scale used to assess the severity and risk of psychosis symptoms, participants in the experiment showed significant improvement both during the trial and at 7 and 21 days after stopping CBD intake,” the study concludes. “All members of the test group reported a subjective improvement in their general well-being. Some did not experience any characteristic symptoms of psychosis during the observation period. Given the effects observed, it can be assumed that CBD extracts may be used as a sedative in the treatment of such conditions, both as a regularly used stabilizing agent and as a medication for immediate relief in case of symptom flare-ups. Of course, to determine the overall therapeutic effectiveness of this remedy, more detailed studies with larger patient samples are needed.”
