Public Testing of Firefox Relay Anonymous Email Service

Public Testing of Firefox Relay Anonymous Email Service

Mozilla has opened up public testing of the Firefox Relay service to everyone. Previously, access to Firefox Relay was available by invitation only, but now any user can try it out through their Firefox Account. Firefox Relay allows you to generate temporary email addresses for registering on websites, so you don’t have to reveal your real email address.

You can create up to five unique anonymous aliases, and any emails sent to these addresses will be forwarded to your actual email. The generated email addresses can be used for logging into websites or for subscriptions. You can create a separate alias for each website, making it easy to identify the source of any spam or data leaks. If a website is hacked or its user database is compromised, attackers won’t be able to link the registration email to your real address. You can deactivate any generated email at any time to stop receiving messages through it.

To make using the service even easier, Mozilla also offers a browser extension that adds a button to web forms for generating a new email alias whenever an email address is requested.

Additional Information

It’s also worth mentioning the recent news about the layoff of Kelly Davis, the head of Mozilla’s Machine Learning Group, which developed speech recognition and synthesis projects such as Deepspeech, Common Voice, and Mozilla TTS. These projects will likely remain available for collaborative development on GitHub, but Mozilla will no longer invest resources in their further development.
