Phishing Protection Now at Your Fingertips

This is important news for all internet users. A new version of the Google Chrome browser has been released, offering enhanced protection against phishing. I want to clarify that I am not a fan of this browser, but I felt it was necessary to share this information because it is extremely difficult for the average internet user to protect themselves from constant attacks aimed at stealing passwords, bank account details, social media information, and more.

What Is Phishing?

Phishing is a type of online fraud designed to gain access to users’ confidential information—such as usernames and passwords. This is usually done through mass email campaigns that appear to come from trusted sources.

This method is responsible for about 90% of password leaks among users.

New Chrome Features for Phishing Protection

The latest version of Google Chrome introduces a new security feature that redirects users to the correct website instead of a fake one. In addition, Google is releasing a special extension called Suspicious Site Reporter. With this extension, users can report suspicious pages directly to Google Safe Browsing.

What Is Safe Browsing?

Safe Browsing is Google’s system for warning users about malicious websites or dangerous downloads. It is available in Chrome on all platforms. Soon, users will be able to flag suspicious pages using the Suspicious Site Reporter extension. After installing the extension, a flag icon will appear to the right of the address bar.

Clicking the extension’s flag icon opens a dialog box where you can report a suspicious page to Safe Browsing. By default, Google will receive the site’s IP address, a screenshot, and the DOM content (which includes the site’s HTML code).
