MobonoGram 2019 Removed from Google Play for Containing Trojan Malware

MobonoGram 2019 Unofficial Telegram Client Found to Be Trojan Malware

The MobonoGram 2019 app, an unofficial alternative client for the Telegram messenger, has been removed from the Google Play catalog. The app had over 100,000 installations before its removal. The reason for its removal was the discovery of embedded Trojan code, identified as Android.Fakeyouwon, which performed malicious actions on users’ devices.

While MobonoGram 2019 provided basic messaging features, it also secretly ran several background services that automatically launched on the device. These services sent requests to a command-and-control server to download and display content from malicious and fraudulent websites in the browser.

It is believed that MobonoGram was based on the official open-source Telegram client code, which was then modified to include malicious functionality and published under a different name. The main malicious activity involved displaying fake prize notifications and scam offers, often outside the context of the MobonoGram app and even when the app was not actively running. The harmful services would start automatically after the device was powered on.
