FBI Suspects PlayStation Network Is Used for Cocaine Sales
The FBI has requested that Sony provide information about a PlayStation 4 user suspected of drug trafficking. The agency is interested not only in the suspect’s account details but also in the games he played and his achievements within those games.
According to the FBI’s request, “The company must provide the requested information to the government within 14 days of receiving this notice.”
Law enforcement officials are seeking data on a person named Curtis Alexander, known online as “Dola.” Agents have information suggesting that Alexander used the PlayStation online service to coordinate the sale of large quantities of cocaine.
An unnamed FBI informant claims that the suspect set the price at $34,000 per kilogram of the drug. Within the PlayStation ecosystem, Alexander operated under the username “Speedola20.”
