Facebook Introduces Option to Turn Off Facial Recognition
Facebook has announced a new update to its facial recognition feature, according to an official post on the company’s blog. Users will now be able to prevent the use of facial recognition technology on their photos within the social network.
The new settings were first made available to a select group of users in December 2017. Now, the update is accessible to all Facebook users. According to company representatives, the feature will be turned off by default for new users, but it can be enabled at any time if desired.
Additional settings related to facial recognition are also available to everyone, as mentioned in the blog post. One new feature is the ability to automatically notify users if someone tries to use their photo as their own.
Facebook has previously faced criticism for its practices regarding the collection and storage of user data. Recently, the Facebook Android app was found to be collecting information about users’ system libraries and uploading it to the company’s servers.
