Countries with the Highest Number of Russian Bank Card Thefts

According to a study by Raiffeisenbank, Russian citizens most frequently have funds stolen from their bank cards in Indonesia, India, and Latin American countries. The ranking was compiled based on data from the card monitoring system between 2017 and 2019, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Researchers note that the biggest risks for tourists are physical theft of the card, PIN code compromise, and skimming. Despite a decrease in the overall use of counterfeit cards, Indonesia has remained the most dangerous country for the third year in a row. Experts say that the number of cases involving the use of cloned cards after skimming dropped by 73% in 2019. This is attributed to new payment system requirements for chip card usage and improved security measures against fraudsters.

The number of incidents related to lost and stolen cards has remained unchanged compared to the previous year.

For safety, travelers are advised to use contactless payments, carry only a small amount of cash, and change their card PIN after returning from a trip.
