75,000 Entry Codes for Moscow Apartment Buildings Leaked Online
Unknown individuals have published a database containing entry codes for apartment building locks and intercoms in Moscow and several cities in the Moscow region. According to Izvestia, this leak could make it easier for criminals and scammers to gain access to residential buildings.
The database is publicly available and contains over 75,000 records, including three-digit codes for mechanical locks and intercom codes. In total, the leak affects around 40,000 residential buildings. A spot check revealed that only some of the codes are still valid.
Experts suggest that the database may have originally served as a reference for a delivery company or a large online retailer. The perpetrators likely had no commercial interest and may have intended to exchange this database for another on specialized forums.
Legal experts note that it is unlikely the individuals responsible will face criminal or administrative charges. Under current law, the leaked codes are not considered personal data and do not contain banking or state secrets. Since this information can be known to an unlimited number of people, it is not protected by law. At most, those responsible for the leak could face disciplinary action.
