23% of Russians Have Checked If Their Passwords Were Compromised
Analysts from the antivirus company Kaspersky Lab conducted a survey revealing that nearly one in four Russian internet users (23%) have used special services to check whether their passwords have been compromised. The survey results show that the vast majority of Russians have never checked for data breaches involving their login credentials. Moreover, 61% of respondents admitted they do not know how to do this.
According to the survey, 35% of users said that at some point, third parties had gained access to their confidential information. In 52% of these cases, login credentials ended up in the hands of outsiders.
The survey also highlighted some concerning statistics: only 39% of Russian users create unique passwords for each account. Even fewer respondents—just 38%—regularly change their passwords.
On a positive note, 37% of surveyed Russians said they prefer not to use social media accounts to authenticate on various online services.
For anyone who wants to check if their login credentials have been leaked, experts recommend the service Have I Been Pwned?, created by renowned cybersecurity researcher Troy Hunt.
