Power Walk: NLP Technique for Confidence

Power Walk: NLP Technique

Power Walk is an NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) technique designed to help you enter a state of confidence and resourcefulness, allowing you to handle challenging situations more effectively. Follow these steps to master your own power walk:

  1. Choose a Situation: Select a specific situation from your daily life (Situation X) that you would like to handle better. Assign a physical location or “Challenge Space” as an anchor for this situation.
  2. Recall a Powerful Experience: Think of a time in your life when you felt powerful, influential, and authoritative. Fully associate yourself with that feeling. Create an anchor for this empowered state using a VAK (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic) metaphor—an image, sound, or sensation that serves as your access code to this state.
  3. Walk in the Empowered State: While in this state, start walking (at least 15–20 steps), paying attention to your body symmetry, posture, rhythm, smoothness of movement, and overall harmony.
  4. Adjust Your Walk: Gradually change one element of your walk at a time to find the most optimal and harmonious way for your body to move.
    • Identify two extreme positions for the part of your body or movement parameter you’re adjusting. For example, if your right shoulder is higher than your left, the extremes would be raising your shoulder as high as possible and lowering it as much as possible.
    • Walk first in one extreme position, then the other. Then, walk while letting go of conscious control, allowing your body to find its own optimal, harmonious position. Anchor this new state.
    • Re-enter your empowered state and activate your anchor. Notice how the submodalities (qualities) of your anchor have changed.
    • Pay special attention to adjusting your breathing.
  5. Integrate All Elements: Once all elements of your walk are adjusted, walk again, focusing on the overall harmony of your movement.
  6. Observe from a Meta-Position: Imagine watching yourself from the outside as you walk with power. Check if you are satisfied with your walk. If needed, make further adjustments to your access code (anchor).
  7. Apply the Power Walk to Your Challenge: Using your power walk and maintaining your resourceful state with the anchor, enter your Challenge Space. Go through Situation X while keeping your power walk throughout the situation.
  8. Review from a Meta-Position: Imagine yourself from the outside, handling Situation X in your empowered state.
    • What new choices, opportunities, or aspects of the situation become available to you?
    • Is there anything you might lose by handling the situation this way?
    • Is there anything you’d like to change or add?

You can repeat steps 7–8 several times if needed.

  9. Future Application: Think of a future situation where your power walk could be useful. Resume your power walk and imagine yourself participating in future events, checking how easily you act in those situations.
