Tails 6.5 Released: Key Updates and Features

Tails 6.5 Distribution Released

The specialized Linux distribution Tails 6.5 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been officially released. Tails is based on the Debian 12 package base, comes with the GNOME 43 desktop environment, and is designed for anonymous internet access. Anonymity in Tails is provided by the Tor system. By default, all connections except those routed through the Tor network are blocked by a packet filter. User data persistence between sessions is protected with encryption.

The new release is available as a 1 GB ISO image that can be run in Live mode.

What’s New in Tails 6.5

  • Significantly reduced installation time using the Tails Cloner utility (the previous 30-second delay during partitioning has been removed).
  • Package base synchronized with Debian 12.6.
  • Tor Browser updated to version 13.5.1 (previously, the 13.0 branch was included; now, changes from the 13.5 branch are available).
  • Resolved issues with connecting to the network via mobile broadband operators, LTE, and PPPoE DSL.
