Tails 5.20 Release: Key Updates and Features

Tails 5.20 Distribution Released

The specialized Tails 5.20 distribution (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been released. Tails is based on Debian packages and is designed for anonymous internet access. Anonymity in Tails is provided by the Tor system. By default, all connections except those routed through the Tor network are blocked by a packet filter. User data is encrypted when using the persistent storage mode, allowing data to be saved securely between sessions. The release is available as a 1.2 GB ISO image that can run in Live mode.

Whatโ€™s New in Tails 5.20

  • Tor Browser has been updated to version 13.0.4, which is synchronized with the Firefox 115.5.0 ESR codebase. This update addresses 14 vulnerabilities, 12 of which are considered critical.
  • The Thunderbird email client has been updated to version 115.5.0.
  • To protect against hidden browser fingerprinting, the AdGuard filter list for uBlock Origin, which is tied to the current sessionโ€™s language, is now disabled.
  • Issues with activating persistent storage have been resolved, and translation errors have been fixed.
  • The WhisperBack interface has been improved to simplify sending error reports with the necessary diagnostic information.
