Tails 4.1: A New Release for Privacy Enthusiasts
The developers have released an updated version of the “paranoid” Linux distribution Tails (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), now at version 4.1. This build is based on Debian and provides anonymous access to the Internet. All communications are routed through Tor, while other connections are blocked to ensure privacy.
The distribution also uses encryption to protect user data between sessions. It is recommended to use Tails only in its Live version, running from an external memory card or USB flash drive.
What’s New in Tails 4.1
- The system now uses the Linux 5.3.9 kernel.
- Tor Browser has been updated to version 9.0.2.
- Enigmail is updated to 2.1.3.
- Thunderbird is updated to 68.2.2.
- The default key server is now keys.openpgp.org.
- The TorBirdy add-on for email has been removed and replaced with patches.
You can download the new build from the official website.
Tor Browser 9.0.2 Released Separately
A separate build of Tor Browser 9.0.2 is also available for all current platforms. The list of changes is small:
- NoScript updated to version 11.0.9.
- HTTPS Everywhere component updated.
- Fourteen vulnerabilities have been fixed, half of which were considered serious.
Minor improvements include better functionality of the gray border used to prevent identification by window size, and fixes for localization issues in the mobile version of Tor Browser for Android. The web browser is available for download from the official site.
