Greece to Open Europe’s Largest Medical Cannabis Farm

Europe’s Largest Medical Cannabis Farm to Open in Greece

The Israeli company Tikun Olam is set to open the largest medical cannabis cultivation farm in Europe, located in the Corinthia region of Greece. The farm will produce cannabinoid-based medicines from plant material.

Farm Size and Facilities

The cannabis cultivation area will cover 16,000 square meters. The project is being developed by Tikun Olam Greece, a subsidiary of Tikun Olam. The company has received a 10-year license from the Greek government to grow and process cannabis.

The entire facility spans 56,000 square meters and includes three main components:

  • Greenhouses for cannabis cultivation (21,000 square meters)
  • A processing plant (1,000 square meters)
  • A packaging facility for cannabinoid medicines (1,500 square meters)

Farm Structure and Security

The farm is divided into four zones for:

  • Growing mother plants
  • Cultivating clones
  • Transplanting cannabis bushes
  • Stimulating flowering in young plants

The facility will be fenced and regularly patrolled by security guards. Modern methods will be used to prevent unauthorized access and cyberattacks, as well as to protect against natural disasters.

Tikun Olam Greece plans to launch the farm in July 2022 and release the first batch of cannabinoid medicines by the end of the year.

Greece to Begin Production of Cannabis Medicines in 2022

In April, Adonis Georgiadis, the Minister of Development and Investments, announced that Greece would plant medical cannabis varieties and harvest the first crop in 2022. The government aims to make Greece the leading European producer of cannabinoid medicines. With Tikun Olam Greece’s ambitious plans, the country has a strong chance to become a leader in the cannabis market.

Other Companies and Market Impact

In addition to Tikun Olam Greece, companies such as Biomecann, Bioprocann, Cannatec Greece, and Hellenic Dynamics will also cultivate medical cannabis in Greece. These companies plan to sell their products both domestically and internationally. For example, Hellenic Dynamics has signed a contract to supply up to one ton of cannabis per year to the Israeli company Kanabo, which researches cannabis and develops new cannabinoid products.

Economists estimate that the Greek cannabis industry could contribute up to 1.5 billion euros (about 93.3 billion rubles) annually to the country’s budget.
