Thailand to Reconsider Cannabis Decriminalization
The new government of Thailand is reviewing the ongoing process of cannabis decriminalization, nearly two years after the country became the first in Asia to take this step.
In an interview with Bloomberg Television in New York during the United Nations General Assembly, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin made it clear that cannabis in Thailand will be used strictly for medical purposes. When asked whether Thailand would regulate cannabis for recreational use, Srettha gave a firm response: βNo.β
Under current laws, people are allowed to use cannabis, but not in public places, and can grow plants at home only after notifying local authorities. Producers are also permitted to cultivate cannabis after registering with Thailandβs Food and Drug Administration.
