South Africa Approves Bill to Legalize MJ for Personal Use

A bill to legalize MJ (marijuana) for personal use has been approved in South Africa. The legislation has been in development since 2018, when the country decriminalized the use of marijuana.

Under the new law, buying and selling marijuana will remain prohibited, but individuals will be allowed to grow it at home. “If you want to smoke cannabis, you’ll have to grow it yourself, not buy it,” said Member of Parliament Janho Engelbrecht.

The specific limits on how many plants or how much dried marijuana a person can keep at home have not yet been announced. However, this move is seen as the first step toward significant changes in the country’s cannabis policy.
