Czech Government Establishes Task Force to Explore Cannabis Legalization
Recently, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, announced the creation of a special government task force of experts. This group has been assigned to develop various plans for national cannabis legalization, as well as to organize and regulate the plant’s market in the country.
The committee is headed by Jindřich Vobořil, the head of the national drug policy department. Despite his position, Vobořil is an open supporter of reform and has recently encouraged the Czech Republic and other countries in the region to consider the legalization model currently being implemented in Germany.
Learning from International Models
In addition, Mr. Vobořil recently visited Spain on a special assignment, where he studied the local system of cannabis social clubs. These clubs allow citizens to grow plants for personal use on a non-commercial basis. Inspired by Spain’s experience, Vobořil aims to organize a similar system for distributing cannabis products in the Czech Republic, allowing citizens to cultivate both medical and recreational plants in community-based plantations.
