Snoop Dogg Reveals He Smoked a Joint in the White House
Recently, Snoop Dogg officially added himself to the list of famous “public figures who have smoked cannabis in the White House,” joining the likes of Willie Nelson and Billy Carter. In an interview with BroBible, Snoop recounted how he once lit up a joint in a White House restroom during a public event several years ago.
The interview itself was primarily about promoting a new product sponsored by Snoop—Corona’s “slim” beer cans. However, the conversation soon shifted to Snoop’s well-known love for cannabis. When asked about the strangest or most unusual place he’s ever smoked marijuana, Snoop shared the story of how he managed to smoke a joint during a public event at the White House, where he had been invited as a musician and guest of honor.
“You know, I got to take a good hit in the White House bathroom. At the time, I was being honored for my contributions to Black American culture, so all eyes were literally on me,” the musician said. “I’m surprised I didn’t get caught right then and there, but I guess people just didn’t notice much difference between me sober and me high. But I did it: I smoked weed right in the White House, and nothing happened to me. Isn’t that cool?”
Although Snoop didn’t specify the exact date of the incident, it appears he was referring to the 2013 Kennedy Center Honors ceremony and his subsequent meeting with President Obama.
How Snoop Pulled It Off
“It was at an event honoring Black cultural figures, held right in the White House. There was a huge buffet with all kinds of fancy but not-so-tasty food, like fried snails and other weird stuff. After grabbing a bite, I decided to top off dinner with a good joint and went looking for a spot to enjoy the pre-rolled cigarette,” Snoop recalled. “Luckily, despite all the security, the White House staff didn’t think to check what I was hiding in my socks! So I made my way to the kitchen, where I ran into a guy dressed like a butler, who kindly showed me the way to the restroom.”
“He asked me something like, ‘Sir, do you need to go number one or number two?’ and without thinking, I showed him the joint and said I just needed a quick smoke break. He nodded and led me to what he called the ‘special bathroom’—basically a regular staff restroom, where, apparently, other White House kitchen workers like to sneak a smoke during work hours,” Snoop said. “So I quickly got in the right mood and went back to the table just in time to meet the president. If you think about it, it wasn’t anything special—I do this at a lot of parties and get-togethers. The only difference is, this time I pulled it off in the home of our country’s leader.”
Snoop’s “Smoke Protest” at the White House
It’s also worth noting that a few years later, Snoop smoked a joint again at the White House—this time as part of a “smoke protest” supporting the legalization of recreational cannabis in Washington, D.C., on the White House lawn in 2018. Unlike the first incident, this story was documented on Instagram and confirmed by dozens of eyewitnesses.
