New U.S. Record Set for Most Joints Smoked Simultaneously

U.S. Sets Record for Most Joints Smoked at Once

On September 22, 2024, a new world record was set in California for the most joints smoked simultaneously, reaching a total of 7,000. Thousands of people lit up cannabis joints together in sync during the Hall of Flowers festival, with support from OCB, a company that manufactures rolling papers. OCB staff helped attendees roll their joints and started a countdown. When the clock struck 4:20 p.m., 7,000 people lit their cannabis joints at the same time.

Festival Activities and Celebrity Guests

The festival offered visitors a variety of free interactive games, the chance to smoke cannabis with rapper Wiz Khalifa, meet famous basketball player Gary Payton, sample different cannabis products, participate in a dance competition, and enjoy many other fun activities.

Joints Expected to Surpass Cannabis Flower Sales

According to analysts at Custom Cones USA, joints are expected to soon surpass cannabis flower in sales in the United States. Their research shows that from June 2023 to June 2024, Americans spent 12% more on joints, purchasing $4.1 billion worth in the first half of 2024. In comparison, sales of cannabis flower and vaporizers with cannabis oils grew by only 0.4% and 3.4%, respectively. If this trend continues, joints will first overtake vape pens and then cannabis flower, which is still the current sales leader.

Falling Prices Drive Demand for Joints

One of the main reasons for the growing demand for joints is their decreasing price. From January 2023 to June 2024, the average price of a joint dropped by 16.7% to $6.50. However, buying cannabis flower is still more cost-effective. The average price for 1 gram of high-quality cannabis is $11.60, while a typical joint contains about 0.3 grams. This means that buying cannabis in joint form costs about $21.70 per gram, nearly double the price of loose flower.
