Legalize Cannabis Party Introduces Personal Use Bill in Australia

Legalize Cannabis Party Launches Personal Use Bill in Three Australian States

The Legalize Cannabis Party (LCP) has introduced identical bills in three Australian states as its representatives across the country begin a coordinated campaign to legalize personal cannabis use. The proposed legislation aims to legalize the personal consumption of cannabis in Victoria, New South Wales, and Western Australia. This marks the first time in Australian legislative history that the same bill will be introduced in three states on the same day.

According to the bill, adults would be allowed to “responsibly possess and grow small amounts of cannabis at home.”

Rachel Payne, the Legalize Cannabis MP for Victoria, stated: “This bill represents a sensible and meaningful reform aimed at ending the criminalization of people who use cannabis. It’s time for our governments to update outdated laws to reflect the expectations of society.”

According to the party, more than 700,000 people have been arrested in Australia for cannabis-related offenses since 2010, with over 90% of those arrests for possession or use of cannabis.
