How to Make Cannabis Bath Salts
As Sylvia Plath once said, “There must be quite a few things that a hot bath won’t cure, but I don’t know many of them.” I completely agree with this sentiment: a good bath truly helps relax both body and mind, allowing you to quickly shake off the stresses of the workday. But what can make a hot bath even more enjoyable and beneficial for your health? Of course, adding THC and CBD molecules to the water, so your entire body can absorb the healing cannabinoids through the skin.
In fact, you can already buy such products legally in many stores that sell cannabis-related goods. Small balls of salt containing cannabinoid extracts, commonly known as “bath bombs,” are extremely popular among consumers who appreciate their therapeutic effects on nerves and skin. Overall, taking a bath with cannabis salts provides a therapeutic and relaxing effect on all the muscles in your body, helping to relieve symptoms of pain, joint numbness, and soft tissue inflammation.
In any case, this product is perfect for any occasion: whether you’re exhausted after a long day of mental or physical work, or you just want to relax in the bath on your day off, cannabis bath salts will help enhance the relaxing effects of your soak.
If you can’t find these salts in stores, don’t worry-we’ll share a recipe so you can make them yourself at home.
DIY Cannabis Bath Bomb Recipe
Making one bath bomb will take about three and a half hours in total, but the actual hands-on time is only about 15 minutes; the rest is just waiting for the product to set.
Ingredients:
- Bath bomb molds (available online, for example on Amazon)
- 140 grams (about 5 oz) baking soda
- 56 grams (about 2 oz) cornstarch
- 56 grams (about 2 oz) citric acid
- 56 grams (about 2 oz) Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate)
- 1.5 teaspoons distilled water
- 1 teaspoon essential oil (choose your favorite scent)
- 1/4 teaspoon THC/CBD extract in coconut oil (or a cannabis tincture)
- A few drops of food coloring or colored mica powder (optional)
Instructions:
- Mix all the ingredients except the coloring in a single bowl. Stir thoroughly until you have a uniform mixture.
- Transfer the mixture into a small glass (a shot glass works well).
- Stir the mixture very slowly until it turns into a dry, sand-like mass. If it starts fizzing a lot, you’re going too fast-slow down. Once the mixture is dry, add your chosen coloring.
- The finished mixture should resemble slightly damp sand. To check the consistency, try rolling a small amount in your hand. When squeezed, it should clump together rather than crumble. If it’s not sticky enough, add a little more water and mix again.
- Fill the molds with the mixture, packing them almost to the top-leave just a tiny bit of space at the edges. After filling both halves of the spherical mold, cover the surface of each half with a layer of the mixture to help them stick together.
- Firmly press the two halves of the bath bomb together for 1-2 minutes. Carefully remove the mold from one side of the finished ball.
- Let the ball sit in the open air for 20 minutes to harden. Then, gently remove the second half of the mold. Try to twist it off with a quick, smooth motion so the ball doesn’t fall apart. If it does break, don’t worry-just pack it back together and repeat the previous steps.
- Finally, let the finished bath bomb dry for several hours (you can just leave it on a windowsill overnight). Once it’s hardened into a solid ball, your product is ready. Just drop the whole ball or a piece of it into your bath and enjoy the soothing effects of cannabinoids as you soak.
