American Nurses Association Officially Recognizes Medical Cannabis Treatment as Medical Practice
The American Nurses Association (ANA) has officially recognized medical cannabis treatment as a legitimate medical practice. A new specialty association, the American Cannabis Nurses Association (ACNA), has been established to support this field. The mission of the ACNA is to promote the specialty through education, research, and advocacy. Nurses specializing in this area will care for and support patients who are undergoing treatment with cannabis.
The American Nurses Association has supported safe access to therapeutic cannabis for over 20 years. Since 2021, the Association has called for a scientific review of the status of cannabis, advocating for its reclassification from a Schedule I to a Schedule II drug. This change would make it easier to research the medical benefits of cannabis.
