Japan to Implement Active Cyber Defense Measures in 2023
The Japanese government plans to introduce “active cyber defense” starting in 2023, allowing specialists to proactively counter hacker threats. According to the newspaper Nikkei, this will involve amending legislation to enable Japanese experts to take preventive action against cyberattacks.
This measure is being introduced to help prevent cyber threats and reduce risks to the information systems used in Japan’s economy. Under current law, such actions are only permitted in response to emergencies after a cyberattack has already occurred.
The publication notes that by the end of 2022, Japan is expected to present and update three key national security documents: the National Security Strategy, the National Defense Program Guidelines, and the Medium-Term Defense Program.
