Ragnar Locker Ransomware Threatens Victims Against Contacting Police or FBI

Ragnar Locker Ransomware Warns Victims Not to Contact Police or FBI

The operators behind the Ragnar Locker ransomware have issued a warning to their victims: if they contact law enforcement agencies, such as the police or the FBI, their stolen data will be published online. According to Bleeping Computer, this announcement appeared this week on Ragnar Locker’s darknet site.

The hackers threaten to leak victims’ data if they reach out to the FBI, police, private investigators, or even data recovery specialists. The warning also extends to those who hire professional negotiators, as the ransomware operators claim these negotiators often have ties to law enforcement and only make the data recovery process worse.

How Ragnar Locker Operates

Ragnar Locker is known for its operators manually deploying ransomware payloads within victims’ systems. The hackers spend time conducting reconnaissance to identify network resources, backups, and confidential files to steal before encrypting the data.

Some of Ragnar Locker’s previous victims include the Japanese video game company Capcom and computer hardware manufacturer ADATA.
