Vitamin C for Preventing Paranoia, Anxiety, and Mental Fog
I created this topic because I noticed that many people experience physical issues such as paranoia and anxiety when using cannabis. I want everyone to know that these effects can be prevented.
How It Happens
THC is one of the active chemical compounds in cannabis and acts as a stimulant for the adrenal glands. These glands produce adrenaline, which triggers sharp reactions similar to suddenly waking up or feeling a strong attraction to someone you just met.
When you smoke especially potent cannabis, your body is flooded with these stimulants, which help release chemicals caused by stress. This isn’t a problem if your body has enough compounds to counteract these stimulants, such as dopamine, serotonin, and most importantly—vitamin C.
The Role of Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps your body slow down the release of stress hormones that cause you to feel like you need to react to something. These hormones are the reason for such reactions when you’re stimulated. That’s why people who consume a lot of cocaine, sugar, or coffee often suffer from paranoia and can seem unhinged. At first, people who overuse mild stimulants like coffee may just seem cautious, but if you live with them, you’ll notice they’re always on edge.
How to Prevent Negative Effects
All these negative effects can be prevented with a healthy diet and a good dose of vitamin C. Sunbathing also helps: sunlight entering your eyes reaches your brain and releases serotonin, a relaxing chemical. Foods like turkey or high-carb meals such as spaghetti have a similar effect.
Whenever you use cannabis in any form, make sure to take vitamin C 30–60 minutes beforehand. Take at least 500 mg, but if you’re using something like hash or lead an active lifestyle, take 1000 mg. It’s best to use vitamin C in powder or dissolvable form for maximum absorption.
For Frequent Users
If you smoke often but don’t want to take vitamin C before every session, try using Metamucil with vitamin C. This combination slows down the absorption and release of vitamin C, making its effects last longer. Vitamin C is water-soluble and leaves your system relatively quickly if not used.
Metamucil contains psyllium husk (Plantago psyllium), a sticky substance that slows the absorption of nutrients and allows your body to absorb more of them. This product is also great for people with diabetes who need to maintain stable insulin levels.
What to Expect
At first, when you start using this method, you might not notice any effects, especially if you’re already low on vitamin C. But if you take it daily, after about a week you’ll be able to enjoy cannabis without the negative mental side effects.
This method also works for those who use mushrooms. Peace.
