WhatsApp Launches Disappearing Messages

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to send disappearing messages. Now, you can share photos and videos in a “view once” mode, meaning the recipient can only view the file a single time. These messages will not appear in the chat preview and cannot be saved to the recipient’s device.

How the Feature Works

To send a disappearing message, a timer button has been added to the settings panel. Once you tap this button, the message will disappear from the recipient’s chat after it has been viewed. This feature is designed to help users better control the privacy and security of their conversations, such as when sending a photo containing a password or other confidential information.

Important Details and Limitations

WhatsApp notes that the “view once” option does not guarantee complete privacy, as recipients can still take screenshots or record their screen while viewing the message. The “view once” feature will become available for smartphones in the next app update.
