First Russian Series About the Darknet and Drug Trade in Production

The first Russian TV series about the darknet, titled KLAD, is currently in production. The creators of the series are keeping their identities a secret for now, but the first teaser for the drama is already available online.

“We wanted to shed light on the topic of the darknet so people can understand how the process works from the inside. We also hope to win over viewers from an artistic perspective. There hasn’t been a series like this on our market before,” the creators of KLAD shared.

Plot Overview

The story centers on an ordinary young man who has recently developed a drug addiction. Stuck in the monotony of daily life, his world is turned upside down when he comes into possession of something that was never meant for him. This discovery sets off a chain of events that lands him in the middle of a conflict between smugglers, drug dealers, and the police. The protagonist is left to rely on his courage, clear mind, and anonymity to survive.

Key Themes

KLAD tackles pressing issues of modern society, including:

  • Crime
  • The escort service market
  • Drugs as both a business and an addiction
  • Sports as a complex and sometimes unstable path to self-development

Social Commentary

“Right now, many young people in Russia simply don’t know what to do with themselves—there’s too much information and pressure all around. Everyone is searching for an easy way out because social media and television promote a lifestyle that’s out of reach for most young people. This gap between what’s desired and what’s real leads to depression and other psychological problems. The series also addresses this issue,” the creators explained.
