Robots Guard Marijuana Fields in California

Robots Are Now Guarding Marijuana Fields in California

In some U.S. states, the use of marijuana for medical purposes is legal and not considered a crime. On the contrary, marijuana fields are protected and guarded. In the United States, drones and robots are increasingly being used for this purpose.

For example, in Desert Hot Springs, California, a special device will patrol these fields. Todd Kleperis, the director of Hardcar Security—a company specializing in the protection of marijuana fields—said that the robot will be used to patrol the company’s property in the evenings.

Currently, robots are already operating on some plantations in California.

Why Are Robots Needed?

According to Todd, security guards often slack off in the evenings, playing games or spending time on social media. This was one of the reasons for deploying robots.

He also noted that the device helps keep people safe: “In this line of work, every guard risks getting shot. For a robot, that’s not a problem.”

This robot does not return fire at intruders, but its creators plan to add a pepper spray feature in the future.
