DuckDuckGo, the privacy-focused search engine, continues its rapid expansion. According to its developers, the platform now processes over 100 million search queries per day and saw nearly 47% growth in 2021.

While Google remains the dominant search platform, DuckDuckGo’s growth is impressive. In 2020, DuckDuckGo handled more than 23.6 billion search queries and reached 79 million daily searches by the end of December. In 2021, the search engine processed 34.6 billion queries so far, averaging around 100 million searches per day. This represents a 46.4% increase over the year.

Market Share and Competition

Despite these impressive numbers, DuckDuckGo still holds only 2.53% of the overall search engine market share. Its closest competitors are Yahoo (3.3%) and Bing (6.43%), while Google maintains a dominant position with 87.33% of search engine traffic in the United States.

Beyond Search: New Services from DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo’s developers are not just focused on search. This year, they introduced their own email service, which helps users eliminate trackers from their emails. Recently, they also announced that they are working on developing their own desktop browser.
